Chartered on March 23, 1971, the Penns Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited is located in central Pennsylvania. The Penns Creek Chapter includes Mifflin, Juniata, and parts of Snyder and Huntingdon Counties. We are one of the first chapters to be chartered in the state of Pennsylvania. There were six founding members. Today our membership includes approximately one hundred and fifty members. In 1973 this chapter won the Golden Trout Award from TU National. In the same year, Gene Brown, the chapter president, was awarded the Golden Trout Award for personal achievement. It was a very good year for this chapter. We are close to many excellent cold water streams. These streams are a joy to fish and it is our responsibility to help protect and conserve these resources.
Trout Unlimited's mission is to conserve, protect, and restore North America's trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds.
The organization was formed with the purpose of protecting, conserving, and enhancing the cold water fishery resources in our geographic area. This remains our primary objective. We are concerned with all water resource issues while striving to preserve and maintain its quality.
We are involved with many local conservation efforts including the newly formed Kishacoquillas Watershed Association and community coalitions efforts. Maintaining a voice and presence in conservation efforts remains our #1 priority.
The Chapter re-organized in February 2001. Considerable effort has been placed on increasing our membership, building community partnerships, support of other conservation organizations and activities, and development of stream projects. On September 25, 2005 we were rewarded for our efforts by being selected by PATrout as the Edward J. Urbas Memorial Award winner for the 2005 Best Chapter in PA. We greatly appreciate being chosen as recipients of the award and look to continue and grow our efforts. The award is a tribute to the hard work of our entire membership.
