Penns Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited

Announcement of 2005-2006 Seminar Series

September 22, 2005 -- The Penns Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited is proud to announce a series of seminars open to the public on conservation and flyfishing topics for 2005-2006.  The components of the seminar series are outlined below:

Introduction to Flyfishing:  This class is designed for the beginning flyfisherman.  Each participant will tie two flies and recieve basic instruction in casting a flyrod.  Saturday October 15, 2005 9am-Noon

Basic Aquatic Entomology:  This seminar will explain the basic aquatic macroinvertebrates that inhabit our local trout streams.  While these aquatic insects provide a stable food source for trout, they also provide clues into the overall water quality of our local coldwater streams. Saturday October 29, 2005 10am-Noon

Trout 101:  This seminar will explore the trout itself - its habits, habitat, lifecycle, etc.  The class will also provide a brief overview of modern flyfishing equipment and its uses. Wednesday November 16, 2005 7pm-9pm

Flytying Classes:  This class series will consist of four 2hr sessions designed to provide the basic knowledge and skills for tying all types of flys used for fishing.  All materials and equipment will be provided for the class. Beginner flytying kits will be available at an additional cost.  Registration fee $25.  Wednesdays in January beginning January 4, 2006 7pm-9pm

Beginner / Intermediate Fly Casting: The class is designed for the beginner and intermediate fly casters improve their skills.  A guest expert flycaster will on hand to demonstrate and aid in instruction.  Saturday March 18, 2006 9am-Noon.

Reading the Water - Key to catching Trout!:  This seminar is designed to aid beginner/intermediate flyfisherman in advancing their skills for identifying trout habitat, positioning to properly present a fly to fish, and other "on-the -stream" skills.  This seminar will provide both classroom and on-stream instruction.  Waders or hip-boots required for the class.  Saturday March 25, 2006 9am-Noon

Trout Tactics I - Rigging for and fishing with Nymphs and Streamers:   This class is designed to provide an overview of fishing with nymphs and streamers.   Basic instruction will be provided in outfitting for this method of flyfishing, selection of flies, and basic casting with nymphs/streamers.  Instruction will take place both in the classroom and on-stream.  Waders and valid PA fishing license w/trout stamp required.  Wednesday May 10, 2006 6-9pm

Trout Tactics II - Rigging for and fishing with Dry Flies:  This class is designed to provide an overview of fishing with dry flies.  Basic instruction will be provided in outfitting for dry fly fishing, fly selection, and basic casting with dry flies.  Instruction will take place both in the classroom and on-stream.  Waders and valid PA fishing license w/trout stamp required.  Wednesday May 17, 2006 6-9pm

Flyfishing for Ladies! : The Penns Creek Chapter recognizes that not only men enjoy fishing for trout and are pleased to offer this opportunity for ladies only.   This class is designed to provide basic flytying and flyfishing skills for ladies in an ladies-only learning environment.  All participants will learning basic flytying and flyfishing skills.  Date and Time to be announced - Spring 2006.

Classes are open to ages 15 and older. All classes/seminars will be held at the Lewistown Community Center at the entrance to Lewistown's Rec Park. All classes, with the exception of fly-tying, are being provided at a cost of $5.00 per session due on registration. Advance registration is required for all classes.
