Protecting Our Resources
Protection of Coldwater
Fishery Resources
- The Penns Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited is dedicated to the protection of our
coldwater fishery resources. We act to preserve our water resources whenever
threatened. We feel it is our obligation to actively pursue water quality problems
to enhance the fisheries.
The chapter reacts to natural
and man-made environmental threats to our area streams. We try to be pro-active in
preventing events from occurring by acting on potential threats. We are
advocates for our waterways and try to provide alternatives to maintain water quality,
quantity, and recreational usage.
Key Benefits
- Maintain water quality for human consumption, usage, and aquatic habitat.
- Maintain our recreational resources by preventing damage to streams.
- Provide long-term benefits to future generations of community members, anglers, and
aquatic life.
Current Local Threats We are Working to Prevent or Limit
- We support proposal for White Mountain Wild Area for Penns Creek. ( This will limit
motorized vehicles to existing approved roadways.)
- Route 322 sedimentation from new highway construction.
- Illegal dumping on Kishacoquillas Creek streambanks.
- "White" events on Honey Creek. Source unknown. We are ready for testing
and have mechanisms in place if events happen again
- Excessive Nitrogen levels in Kishacoquillas Creek from Ag. runoff problems.
- PH (Acid Rain) related issues on chapter free stone mountain streams.
