Stream Enhancement

The Penns Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited provides streambank and in-stream enhancement to provide quality habitat for trout, aquatic insects, and migratory waterfowl.  We have used Embrace-A-Stream funding in addition to local chapter contributions for projects in the Penns Creek Chapter.  We are always looking for potential enhancement project sites on local trout streams.  All enhancement projects are accomplished in coordination with the PA Fish Commission and local Conservation Districts.

          We are currently investigating the possibilities for new stream improvement projects.  We look forward to   getting another project started in Spring/Summer 2007. 

           Please submit the form below if you know of a section of a local stream that   needs some help!    We will make an assessment, contact the applicable agencies, have improvement plans made, obtain permits, and try to get something done.  So if you know of something in the Penns Creek Chapter Area ( Mifflin, Juniata, parts of Snyder and Huntingdon Counties PA) give us your suggestion.  This is a great opportunity to help a stream, the trout, and other aquatic life.

Current Projects (in various stages of planning and completion)

• Tea Creek - Reedsville, PA
  • This project is in the final stages.  We are working with the Mifflin County Conservation District and PA Fish and Boat Commission to restore a section of this stream that flows through the old mill pond in Reedsville.  PCTU will be responsible for providing input on design and labor for construction of devices and streambank plantings.  The Riparian Zone plantings will be done on October 7 and 8, 2006 @ 7am each day.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  The Final task for the project will be signage for the project - some GREAT signs are in the works!  We will keep you updated!
